Method
Whisk the mayonnaise, melted butter, tomato paste, sugar, vinegar, paprika, garlic powder and water until smooth. That's your yum yum sauce. Mash the softened butter with the garlic.
Cut the chicken and vegetables. Heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the zucchini, onion and mushrooms with a third of the garlic butter and 1 tbsp of the soy sauce and stir-fry until tender and browned at the edges. Tip onto a plate.
Add the chicken to the hot pan with half the remaining garlic butter, season with salt and pepper and spread it out. Cook, turning once or twice, until golden and cooked through with no pink inside.
Add the rest of the garlic butter and soy sauce, squeeze over the lemon and toss until glossy. Return the vegetables and toss to heat through.
Scatter with the sesame seeds and serve with the yum yum sauce for dipping.
Tips
- Garlic butter, soy and a squeeze of lemon right at the end are what make it taste like the original. Keep the heat high so everything sears instead of steaming.
- Make it a full steakhouse meal with our copycat hibachi fried rice, cooked in the same pan first.
- Swap in tamari for a gluten-free version.
