Cracker stacker lunch box

Our homemade take on the store-bought lunch kits: crackers, squares of cheddar, folded ham and grapes packed side by side so kids can build their own stacks. It costs less, skips the extra packaging and takes 10 minutes.

Method

  1. Slice the cheese about ¼ inch thick and cut it into 8 squares roughly the size of the crackers.

  2. Cut each ham slice into quarters and fold each piece in half so it sits neatly on a cracker.

  3. For kids under 4, cut the grapes in half lengthwise. Pack the crackers, cheese, ham, grapes and carrots in separate compartments of a lunch box.

  4. Close the lid and pack with an ice pack. Kids stack cracker, ham and cheese themselves at lunch.

Tips

  • Keep the crackers in their own compartment, away from the grapes, so they stay crisp.
  • A small cookie cutter turns the cheese and ham into circles that match round crackers exactly.
  • Swap in turkey, salami for older kids, or pepper jack for a grown-up version.
