Method
Heat the broiler with a rack about 6 inches below it. Lay the baguette slices on a sheet pan, brush lightly with olive oil and broil until golden, then flip and toast the other side. Watch closely and set aside.
Meanwhile, mix the cream cheese, Parmesan, Italian seasoning and garlic powder until smooth. Spread it over the bottom of a 10-inch oven-safe skillet.
Spoon the marinara over the cream cheese, then scatter over the mozzarella and arrange the pepperoni on top.
Set the skillet over medium-low heat, cover with a lid and warm until the base is soft and the sauce starts to bubble at the edges.
Uncover and slide the skillet under the broiler until the cheese is melted and spotted brown and the pepperoni edges curl and crisp. Grab the handle with an oven mitt and serve hot with the toasted baguette.
Tips
- Soften the cream cheese in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds so it spreads without tearing.
- Treat it like a pizza: add sliced black olives, cooked sausage or chopped green bell pepper with the pepperoni.
- No oven-safe skillet? Assemble in a pie dish and broil for 5 to 6 minutes, until bubbling.
